It was difficult to achieve a high purity extract with the current CO2 extraction technology on the market. CO2 extraction, like other extraction methods (butane, propane), requires a winterization step. This step uses ethanol to pull the lipids and fat out of the crude extract. So, we designed our new extraction method around ethanol to include this timely and costly step in the extraction process, thus making our method more efficient. Ethanol is renewable, edible, and non-explosive - all things perfect for clean, efficient extraction!
Bloom previously used CO2 as it is widely accepted as a safe solvent for extraction. However, after careful thought and deliberation, we made the switch to ethanol. This process is not only more delicate on the plant but allows us to collect cannabinoids without capturing the unwanted fats, lipids, and waxes, eliminating the need for winterization--a lengthy and costly extra step in the extraction process.
Bloom’s oil is made using cold ethanol extraction--a method that was refined and patented in our lab.
